Novel Therapies to Improve Cardiac and Skeletal Muscle O2 Supply-Demand Mismatch in Older Adults with Peripheral Arterial Disease: Esmolol infusion
This research is being conducted to determine how oxygen delivery to the heart and leg muscles is altered when beta-1 receptors (receptors involved in the “fight or flight” response) are temporarily blocked through a medication infused into an arm vein (compared to when a simple saline solution is infused). This will help us determine whether the medication, Esmolol, a beta-1 blocker, can eventually be used in the evaluation or treatment of PAD.
