Cardio-metabolic effects of diets including pecans
The purpose of the study is to examine how the inclusion of 2 oz./day of pecans into a typical American diet and a healthy diet affect risk factors for heart disease and diabetes.
Age 25-70 years BMI 25-40 kg/m2 Not taking anti-hypertensive, lipid lowering, glucose lowering drugs, steroids, or antibiotics Not currently using tobacco products or smoking
Exclusion Criteria:
Established heart disease, stroke, diabetes, liver, kidney, autoimmune diseases or inflammatory conditions such as gastrointestinal disorders or rheumatoid arthritis Tree nut allergy Pregnant, lactating, planning to become pregnant or have given birth in the past year Weight loss of ≥10% of body weight within the past 6 months Not willing to consume all meals and snacks provided for the study
