A Study Examining Biological Rhythms in Bipolar I Disorder

The research is being done to examine the relationships between chronobiological characteristics and clinical characteristics, physiological markers, cellular signatures, and genetic markers of the illness. The goal of conducting this research is to advance our knowledge of the biological rhythms (the internal body clock) in bipolar disorder. Rhythm disruption is a major characteristic of bipolar disorder, however, to date these relationships have been understudied. The researchers hope to learn more about chronobiology in bipolar disorder and healthy controls through investigating the associations between clinical and biological factors measured in this research study. It is hoped that this information will eventually help doctors understand what may lead to the development of bipolar disorder and to development of methods to monitor and treat the illness.
