Cardiometabolic effects of including pecans as a snack to improve diet quality: a randomized controlled study
The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of pecans replacing one snack daily on heart health, diet quality and blood sugar control. Participants will be randomized into one of two groups. Group 1 will consume ½ cup of pecans per day in place of normally consumed snacks for 12 weeks. Group 2 will be asked to continue consuming their current snacks for 12 weeks. Measures to evaluate heart health and blood sugar will be taken at the beginning and end of the 12 weeks.
There will be 4 in person visits (two at the beginning and two after 12-weeks) with blood draws and vascular measures on both days. Additionally, participants will be required to pick up study foods or gift cards monthly and complete 9 dietary recalls over the course of the 12 week study.
